Introductie Ingrid Simons: Artist

I am mainly active as a painter. I work with oil-paint on linen. I use my camera as a sketch-book. It is figurative work, with a free, impressionistic stroke. The paint is applied in thick layers. “Abstract” approached surfaces from close by and from a clearer, more realistic images viewed from a distance.
I am inspired by everyday situations, which contain a double-meaning.
Portraits, recognizable only by posture, find oneself in still moments of suspence, in which the figure becomes paint. The situation in my work can never be pined down on one explanation ; is it a image of everyday life that you can encounter or a threatening situation?
But also by commonplace situations, by which for instance an commonplace subject as a blouse, that hangs on a clothes-line, almost transforms into in a human form or a piece of hanging meat; soulless things almost squirm with life.
I also work with graphic techniques (mainly lithography), drawing and photography
